2021 Utah Teacher of the Year

My name is John Arthur on the 2021 Utah Teacher of the Year. I'm also a finalist for National Teacher of the Year. I'm here in my classroom, and anytime we have an emergency drill I can't help but look around at my students and wonder, if this were an actual crisis… like for reals could I keep you safe?

Well, now I don’t have to wonder anymore. Last year the pandemic hit a once in a century crisis — and I stepped up; I took two shots in the arm. Oh, also, I could look at my students to say, “You see this?” “This vaccine is for you! It's for us? Now we're all one step closer to ending this pandemic!” People like to say that we teachers are heroes. Well, getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is just one more way we can prove them right.
